Perth rapper Soma has released his first track in 3 years, entitled SPP.
SPP pays homage to Soma's crew and a certain period in their lives when they were young and carefree, living as Soma describes as that Hip Hop life. The song is dedicated to close friend of Soma and many people within the local Perth Hip Hop scene, John Mac. RIP.
The track is self-produced with the recording, mixing and mastering handled by Uncool Sam at Shake Down Studio. The beat is a slow and soulful beat featuring a beautiful vocal sample that is the jewel of the musical piece. The low-key instrumental is the perfect canvas for Soma to paint his tales of late nights, good friends and unforgettable times. Soma's obscure rhymes touching on nights lurking the Northbridge streets, drinking til you pass out, Hyde Park, come downs, the dark turn of the consumption of drugs in Perth "pills to the devil's vapour" and end of the night visits to Billy Lees. Whether you are a part of Soma's crew, a part of the Perth Hip Hop scene or not, Soma spits on themes and events that are relatable and interesting to all.
Accompanying the song release is a nostalgic music video showcasing the many, many drunken times (and non-drunken times!) Soma captured photographs of and with his friends. All sentimental feels!
