Merkules Q&A

Picture
Canadian rapper Merkules is hitting our shores for the first time in February/March this year. Known for his freestyle remixes, Merkules is keen to show Australian fans there’s more to his repertoire.

Are you excited to be coming to Australia for the first time?
Australia has always been on my bucket list of places to visit, Not just to come and perform there but just to experience it in general. The only thing I’m not excited about is the 24 hour plane ride there but we’ll survive haha.

How does it feel to be touring on the other side of the world with your music?
It feels amazing, My parents always tell me ‘’You know we haven’t been to half of the places you have with your music and were in our sixties’’. Its crazy to take all of that in but I’m blessed to do so and I’m happy thats become such a big part of my life now. My passports running out of places for stamps haha.

What are you expectations of Australia as a country and your Australian fans?
To be honest I don’t know what to expect, though I’ve heard nothing but good things about Australia. I’m extremely excited to meet the fans out there, They’ve been requesting that we visit for ages now so I’m happy were finally in a position to make this happen. My homie Chris Webby did warn me about something called a ‘’shoey’’ though I think its called? Apparently I might have to drink alcohol out of a shoe, I’ve done crazier things so I’m on board lol.

Your rap about a broad range of topics and also do a lot of remixes, what inspires you?
The remixes were really just a random idea one day as an attempt to gain more attention and have more eyes on me. It worked but I also don’t wanna lock myself in this ‘’underground rapper remix’’ box either. I know I have a lot more to offer. As far as inspiration goes my everyday life seems to do that for me. We’ve been so busy lately that when I do find time to be in the studio I have so many new things to talk about because everyday is another crazy experience for me.

Who are some hip hop artists that inspire you?
I’m inspired by a lot of the old stuff. The ‘’Big L’s’’ and ‘’Big Puns’’ if you know what I mean? I think musics in a very experimental spot right now though and I think thats awesome. A lot of these new guys are doing things that have never been done before and I respect it, I’m trying to broaden my skill set as well.

What have you got planned for 2018?
2018 is gonna be a movie for us, so much touring that I’ll probably be a zombie by the end of it all but I’m excited. 2017 was the best year we’ve had so I can only imagine what 2018 has in store for us. Just expect lots of new material and lots more tours. I’ll just be over here still trying to grasp whats about to happen haha.
