Droopo boldly announced his presence as a talent to watch in 2019. The debut collaborative EP Locked In with Kae The Goat saw the duo accumulate over half a million online streams, score Triple J and MTV endorsements, as well as play sold out international support slots. Now, the 22-year old spitter unleashes his first solo offering; the nostalgic yet audacious Don Dada.
Born in Chennai, India and raised in the notoriously tough areas of South-East Melbourne, Droopo is the consummate rap prodigy. In the mould of emcees including Joey Badass and YBN Cordae he effortlessly delivers buttery flows laced with poignant street vernacular. On Don Dada, a homage to the original Don Dada - Jamaican dancehall artist Louie Rankin - the natural chemistry with producer JUJO (Jordan Dennis, Bush'ko) is evident. Droopo declares his time is now, all the while surrounded by booming distorted kicks and the constant howl of police sirens, a timely metaphor for his life in the fast lane. "Don Dada is a state of elevation. Know what you want. Know who you are. Know where you've been. Then decide your next move precisely. This one means more than anything to me. It's a promise to my mother and father. I'mma get it no matter..." |
Having previously adorned the cover of Spotify's Local Hype playlist, sat in the esteemed company of the A1 Hip-Hop list, and scored several spins on Beats 1 Radio's The New Australia; the foundation is laid for Droopo to emerge as one of Australia's most natural emcees.
Don Dada is the first offering in a forthcoming run of singles throughout 2020, all highlighting the narrative of a hustler at home in both the booth and on the street. The single is set to soon be supported by a crisp visual offering showcasing the rapper's talents in front of the camera as well as on the mic; not unlike the legend after whom the song is named and the cover art emulated.
