Interview with DJ Que

Picture
Hi DJ Que, thanks for taking time out for this interview. For Rappfox readers, who aren’t familiar with you, tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get into DJing?
Chur everyone and wassup Rappfox, lol, it started back in the 90’s for me. I really wanted to learn to play the guitar from my father as he was musically gifted and threw me a hand guide booklet from his era (60’s). There was no YouTube back then so I was like "omg", lol, "I gave up straight away hands down like the Oz rugby team last Saturday".

Luckily, my uncle (DJ Demarz) was a very good DJ on the 1’s & 2’s and introduced me to this. It was like an eargasm of how to beat mix funky tunes and scratch. I was blown away back then cause back in those days I use to pinch a lot of his mixtapes back then, lol, and he was like our town's version of DJ Jazzy Jeff for us.

What do you enjoy most about DJing, whether that is musically or technically?
Straight up it's everything about the culture and art form from socially meeting other people to being inspired and creating different ideas and pushing your skill set to that next level, to performing a joyful set and the crowd is rocking it with their feet’s stomping on that dance floor, to watching performances of your peers and being amazed like "woah" but to make it short I love it for the passion of it all 😊

Tell me about your practice routine for the DMCs on the 25th of August.
Lol, where do I start... for this year's comp I had the mentality to start working on my set back in January and did I procrastinate on that idea for a long-time... like of few of my friends!

The inspiration and upskilling of my set has been from practicing a lot with friends and asking for feedback on other techniques to work on, etc. Overall this is my second comp I’ve ever entered so my goal is to one day to reach that WA first placing but it definitely won’t be this year... cause I’ve put in a dissing part to mock all the competitors and that was my main goal, lol.

WA representing again this year with 6 competitors I’m looking forward to everyone sets especially the new entrants DJ Mizhap & DubsD should be dope evening.

What can punters expect from your set?
Prepare yourself to hopefully get a good laugh on the night and hopefully a funky sounding set of Hip Hop and R&B juggles and for my last minute I’m still deciding what to work on lol.

Thank again for your time and all the best for the competition on Sunday 25th August at Universal Bar.
Thank you Kylie and also to the Rappfox readers. And best of luck to all the competitors and everyone involved with the Australian DMC DJ Championships 2019, it’s a dopest comp in Oz and much love all, Chur DJ Que.
