Bace Kadet Interview |
|

Hi Bace Kadet, thanks for taking time out for this interview.
First off, thanks for hitting me up for the interview! Big ups to Rappfox.
For people who aren’t familiar with Bace Kadet, tell us a bit about yourself.
The best way to describe Bace Kadet would have to be; modern technology crossed with an old school technique! I love cutting and scratching with old school hip hop and, switching it up and mixing some future bass or dubstep for a club event. I like to stay versatile and try to keep it as interesting as I possibly can. Hip hop is definitely my first love and is what I like to put the most effort into.
You’re one of the younger crew bringing back turntablism, how long have you been working the decks? And what attracted you to the art?
I picked up the decks and started to really get into it at the start of 2014. I had previously been playing around on my mates controllers and CDJs but it wasn't til the end of 2013 that I got my own turntables and scratch mixer to really start getting busy on. From there, I did some courses with 3 x WA DMC Champ Zeke who runs the DJ & Production School Labsix alongside Luke Chan, and the rest is history! From the first time I heard the sound of scratching nothing has been able to separate me from the decks! DJing being one of the 4 elements of hip hop has also educated me a lot and sculpted the way I present myself as a DJ.
This weekend, you’re on supports for Illy who is touring with Dylan Joel & Citizen Kay. How did that gig come about?
I got the Illy gig via good word from Midsole actually. He had a promoter hit him up and he put my name forward as a Perth hip hop DJ he thought fit the bill haha. So tomorrow night be sure to get down to Capitol from 9 to see the show!
And you’re also supporting P-Money & Royal T next month?
Yeah I can't wait! Grime gigs are always so much fun because I listen to a fair bit of grime and I get to play out some tunes and mixes that I've been working on. It's at Villa on March 11th [and it’s] going to be my first time playing at Villa as well, so it should be a awesome atmosphere!
You promote the monthly hip hop/bass/trap night, Dank, bringing DMC DJ JFB and rapper Tornts to Perth already this year. What else is in store for 2016?
Well I'm keeping everything quiet at the moment... But in May is our first birthday so who knows, maybe [a] Block Party with some special guests could be a possibility.
And what else is you’re the cards for Bace Kadet in 2016?
This year I'm going to be working with a lot of MC's so expect scratches and beats! I've also got the State DMC competition towards the end of year & I've been invited by the WAX WARS crew to come back over to Sydney and compete for that again, which I can't wait for! Got a tonne of new battle material I've been working on that I can't wait to perform live. On top of this, I’ve got some smaller gigs that you'll hopefully be able to catch me at throughout the year… And if you do, don't hesitate to come up and have a chat! Big ups Rappfox!
