Average Rap Band Interview |
|

For an Average Rap Band, you're well above average, what's your secret?
Are you sure? How are you measuring this? Latest data we've collected suggests that we're sitting somewhere between 'below average' and 'pathetic'. We're working on these figures though. Hoping that by the end of this year, after a national tour we can peak at 'average', just above Coin Banks and just below Bangs.
The El Sol EP has a strong 80's vibe with the styling’s and use of synths, what were some of the influences when making the album?
In 1982, Melbourne was a hot bed for electro rap funk fusion. For this LP we drew inspiration from that era. Groups such as The Blokes, Gayle Woodford, Alby and The Bastards. These were all huge heroes of ours growing up. So this album was really just a homage to them. We wanted to add something to their legacy.
You're lyrical content toes the line between consciousness and a little bit of “what the f*ck”, what were some of the inspirations when writing the album?
Self-consumer advocates are advising people that most commodities are great value for money.
The album definitely has a distinctive sound. Being former members of @peace, was there a conscious effort to create something that was far removed from your previous work?
Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Vin Diesel once said 'yeah I'll do Fast And The Furious 12'.
You're just about to tour Australia, and after New Zealand, what can rap fans expect from your shows?
Rap fans can expect to be disappointed if they're expecting a rap show. To be honest we don't even really go to rap shows ourselves. I'd rather see Prince. Or Courtney Barnette. Or a good game of cricket. Rap fans can expect an electro show. Cricket fans shouldn't expect anything.
What else is on the cards for Average Rap Band in 2016?
We wanna release another album. We don't want any more albums to be trapped unreleased. Release them all we say. Who is it confining all these albums.
