15-year-old Sunshine Coast native Kayla Oxley emerges with her debut single, Your Mind, a down-tempo R&B-inspired pop groove, set for public release on Friday the 3rd of September.
Your Mind opens with soft yet bouncing vocals set over Magnus Murphy’s trademark production, blending modern pop with elements of R&B and alternative Hip Hop resulting in a moody, deep, and swaying backing, perfectly complimenting Kayla’s cathartic lyrics.
“I actually first started creating this song at the back of a classroom, the idea just came to me, and I spent the whole lesson writing it down on a piece of paper, later I finished it in my bedroom, at the time I was feeling hurt and just let my emotions run free.”
Drawing influences from the likes of Summer Walker, Kehlani and old-school R&B, Kayla presents smooth, rhythmic lyrics fun, and bouncing wordplay perfectly blending hip hop, R&B, and contemporary pop music.

My favourite lyric in the song definitely has to be in the first verse where I say, “Talking you down when you’re looking your best” it's just such a toxic line that runs over fast so people who listen to music but don't listen carefully to the lyrics wouldn't pick up on. It's also a bad bitch move after everything the person in the song has done.
Following the release of Your Mind, Kayla has a few more releases planned for 2021, as well as a few liver performances pending covid restrictions. Her next single, Complicated, is set for release in mid-October.
