My Favourite Kanye West Beats

Picture
Kanye West, as with many Geminis, is a polarising figure. You either love him or hate him.

Having followed Kanye's career from the early 2000's, it is wild to see his evolution as a personality within the culture of Hip Hop but also as a celebrity in mainstream media.

The archetype that Kanye would describe in his early work, ironically or maybe it is not so surprising I don't know any more, is something Kanye himself has become.

But Kanye West has always been a man of his people, his lyrics and his work always touched on the African-American experience in America, albeit through the lens of a man who grew up in a middle class, though still African-American, environment.

Even now, with his support of Donald Trump and wearing a MAGA hat, Kanye is pushing for progress and revolution, in his unusual Kanye way.

However, one thing that is certain, Kanye always believed in himself and his abilities, as a producer, as a rapper and as an influencer. Many things he wished for himself, he very boldly spoke about, and whilst people judged him for his brashness and confidence, he spoke his success into existence. Something everyone should be doing for themselves.

In the early days, Kanye always sought the opportunity to be a solo artist / rapper, and whilst he does have some clever wordplay and memorable bars, there is no denying that he is a far better producer.

In celebration of Kanye West's birthday, I have chosen my favourite Kanye West beats.

Selfish - Slum Village featuring Kanye West + John Legend

You Don't Know My Name - Alicia Keys

The Corner - Common featuring The Last Poets

Can't Tell Me Nothing - Kanye West

All Falls Down - Kanye West featuring Syleena Johnson
